Get ready for 6,000 slices of strawberry cake in Benguet

Vacationers heading north this week may want to experience a strawberry world in La Trinidad in Benguet, with strawberry kutsinta, strawberry wine and strawberry cupcakes.

These delicacies are among the items found along Strawberry Lane in front of the La Trinidad town hall, GMA Dagupan's Joyce Segui reported on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon" Friday.



Such strawberry food items are popular with tourists because they are made from fresh strawberries.

"Opo, mabenta, kasi masarap siya at saka talagang lasa yung strawberry," said vendor Gloria Buya.

But the highlight of this year's Strawberry Festival will come next week with 6,000 slices of strawberry cake.

Meanwhile, paintings by local La Trinidad artists showing the Cordillera way of life adorn the front of the town hall. Most are made by children and people with disabilities.

"Aside from being the strawberry capital of the Philippines, we want to have a general brand essence which is a value of colors for the whole La Trinidad and its people," said tourism officer Valred Olsem. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
