Beer me: Manila is number 15 out of 75 cities on beer cheapness list

When it comes to its appeal as a travel destination, here's another (and huge) point in the Philippines' favor: cheap beer.

GoEuro, a website that compares bus, train and flight prices across Europe, compares the prices of beers in stores and bars in 75 world cities on its 2015 Beer Price Index.

And the Index finds that Manila has cheaper beer than most of them, with the Philippines' capital (and presumably the rest of the country) coming in at number 15 on the list.

According to the list, the average price of 33 centiliters (cl) of beer in a Manila supermarket is $0.61—in other words, a 330 ml can goes for around P28. In a bar, the same beer would go for $3.94, or around P178.

The cheapest beer destination is Krakow, Poland, with 33 cl of beer going for $0.62 at the supermarket and $2.70 in a bar. Geneva has the priciest beers, with the Swiss city charging $1.78 for a can of beer at the supermarket and a staggering $10.77 in a bar.

In other words, if you have $10 dollars in your beer budget, you can buy 16 cans in Krakow and Manila supermarkets, but only five or six in a Geneva grocery.

Taking those numbers, Manila's overall average beer price is $2.28, compared to Krakow's $1.66 and Geneva's $6.32.

The study also finds that Pinoys' annual consumption averages out to a relatively modest 27 liters per capita, with an average annual spend per capita of $184 (P8,300)—compared to Bucharest's 133 liters per person and Helsinki's $1,542 per person a year.
