PHL bags world record for largest serving of lechon

To celebrate its 16th anniversary, agricultural company Calata Corporation broke the world record for the largest serving of roast pork by piling up a huge mound of lechon at the Quezon City Memorial Circle on Sunday.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Lucia Singagliesi was there to monitor the event as cooks from Lydia's Lechon roasted and then hacked away at 330 pigs supplied by Calata subsidiary Brookfield's Meat Inc.

The event yielded 4,046 kilos of lechon, beating the previous record of 3,094 kg of cochinita pibil in Mexico in 2010.

According to one of the event organizers, the 4,046 kilos can feed approximately 15,000 people. In accordance with Guinness rules, the lechon was given away for free to hundreds of people at the event.

Calata also prepared 30 lechon to be given to different charities.

The event was hosted by Rizza Diaz and was attended by company heads as well as Kapuso Stars such as Kristoff Martin, Derrick Monasterio and Glaiza De Castro, who also performed on stage.
