Jollibee is one of the fast-food restaurants Americans "should be watching in 2015," US food magazine Bon Appetit said.

According to the magazine, the decline in sales of fast-food juggernaut McDonald's has opened the door for other outlets to sneak in and snap up some of the US market.

The article noted that Jollibee is beginning to make its presence felt in the US, with its aggressive acquisition of smaller competitors and several branches—currently 30—popping up on both coasts. It has also acquired a 40-percent stake in US chain Smashburger for $99 million.

The Philippine fast-food giant is listed under the "Foreign Invasion" category.

"Store openings are often met with long lines of curiosity seekers and Asian expats," it said. "The menu is curious, a combo of typical burgers and chicken fingers with signature items like Palabok Fiesta Noodles (noodles in garlic sauce with pork, shrimp, parsley flakes and egg) and Spaghetti (touted as, “The Meatiest, the Tastiest, the Spaghettiest!”).

The article lists the fried chicken, the spaghetti and the Amazing Aloha burger as Jollibee's signature items.

Jollibee also has branches in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Brunei. — BM, GMA News
