Grand Hyatt Manila makes a case for vegetarianism: 5 delicious picks from the Green Mondays offering

#MeatlessMondays is a longstanding paandar on social media that hasn’t quite gotten off the ground as successfully as say, #ThrowbackThursday.

It’s understandable: Mondays are hard and going meatless is difficult. Put two together and we hear a defiant hell no.

Enter Grand Hyatt Manila in BGC. The luxury hotel chain recently launched its Green Mondays, an initiative where vegan and vegetarian items are put front and center in the hotel’s dining agenda. It’s part and parcel of their commitment to becoming…environmentally conscious.

“We strive to do our part in the hotel by adopting practices like replacing plastic straws, collecting used coffee beans to use as fertilizer, but we wanted to take it a step further with Green Monday,” says Executive Chef Mark Hagan.

Their Green Monday features dishes that use Beyond Meat products — plant-based protein foods that look and taste exactly like its meat counterpart. There are sausages, hotdogs, burgers that bleed like regular beef.

But more than getting you to eat more greens, these plant-based protein foods are actually quite environmentally friendly, too. The Beyond Burger for instance needs 99% less water, 93% less land, has 90% less greenhouse emissions, and uses 46% less energy compared to regular burger.

“Making healthier choices easier for our guests is one thing, but add to that actually serving up choices that took into consideration your health, environmental impact and sustainability is really going beyond just enjoying good food,” Hagan continues.

Green Mondays is just the beginning for Grand Hyatt. According to Hagan, more plant-based choices will be introduced in the six restaurants in Grand Hyatt: No. 8 China House, The Cellar, The Lounge, Pool House, Florentine, and The Peak.
