Puto Bumbong without the bamboo chutes? It's possible

Puto Bumbong is a family favorite delicacy during the Christmastime, but did you know that there's a mini, bite-sized version that's very easy to make?

Meet the Petite Bumbong. It looks and tastes very much like the traditional Filipino rice cake, only you won't need any bamboo chutes to cook them.

"Unang Hirit" showed viewers how to make these tasty treats in a segment using the following:

  • Glutinous flour (1 kg)
  • Water (300 ml)
  • Ube flavoring (3 tsp)
  • Mantikilya (1 tbsp)
  • Muscovado (1 tbsp)
  • Banana Leaves
  • Steamer

According to Elgyn Bernas, who started a small Petite Bumbong business in Las Piñas City, a budget of P1,000 can already make 30 orders. By selling each box at P100, she was easily able to make P3,000 per batch.

"Petite Bumbong" also have a long shelf life of up to two days at room temperature and up to five days if chilled.
