Japanese strawberries to return to PH market as authorities lift export ban

Japanese strawberries to return to PH market as authorities lift export ban

Japanese strawberries are set to be available in the Philippines soon as the two countries have reached an agreement to lift the ban of the export of the fruit into the country, according to Japanese Ambassador to Manila Endo Kazuya.

In a social media post, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines said the ban on exporting fresh strawberries to the Philippines was lifted on Sunday, December 15, 2024, as agreed upon by local quarantine authorities and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan.

“The previous restriction was implemented due to concerns over pests associated with fresh strawberries from Japan. In response, MAFF engaged in extensive technical discussions with the Philippine quarantine authorities, driven by requests from Japanese production areas,” the post read.
