Morning Sun Eatery in QC draws customers following Michelin Bib Gourmand award

Morning Sun Eatery, a simple carinderia in Quezon City, saw an influx of customers after it was named among the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand awardees on Thursday.

According to Jamie Santos' report in "24 Oras" Friday, the carinderia is known for its affordable and delicious fare. Among its specialties are kilawin, inihaw na baboy, pinakbet, laing, and more.

"Thirty years na po kami. Dito nga kami nakapag-umpisa, nakapag-aral na 'yung mga anak ko. Tiyaga lang po," said Elizabeth Mortera, owner of Morning Sun Eatery.

"Maraming maraming salamat po sa inyo dahil napapakilala niyo po 'yung maliit na karinderya po namin," she added.

Morning Sun Eatery joins 24 other Philippine restaurants that received the Bib Gourmand award at the inaugural Michelin Guide Ceremony: Manila and Environs & Cebu 2026 on Thursday.

Following its inclusion among the Bib Gourmand awardees, many diners headed to the carinderia to try out its offerings.

"'Yung barbecue nila, masarap 'yung sauce. Malinamnam 'yung barbecue, tapos meaty," said Richelle.

Another customer, Bobby, shared he was going to try Morning Sun Eatery's barbecue and isaw.

"First time namin. Since purong Ilokano kami, then we want to try din 'yung totoong dinakdakan nila," said Grace, another diner.

According to the Michelin Guide, the Bib Gourmand is awarded to restaurants that offer “a three-course meal at a reasonable price.”

Over 70 establishments were also included in the Michelin Selected list. These are restaurants that have been officially recognized and recommended by the Michelin Guide, but have not received a star or Bib Gourmand distinction just yet.

Nine Philippine restaurants also received Michelin Stars, with Chef Josh Boutwood's Helm earning the highest distinction of two Michelin Stars.
