Morning Sun Eatery is the ‘biggest star of them all’ — Chef JP Anglo
Even before its Michelin Bib Gourmand award, Quezon City's Morning Sun Eatery's authentic home-style Ilokano cooking has already made fans out of distinguished chefs like JP Anglo.
On Instagram, Anglo celebrated Morning Sun Eatery, calling them "The biggest star of them all."
Sharing a carousel of photos from his past visits to the Project 4 karinderia, Anglo said the recognition from the Michelin Guide "will change the landscape of Filipino street food [and] Filipino cuisine in general."
“Our real local heroes," he added.
Anglo said Morning Sun Eatery “is just the tip of the iceberg,” emphasizing that there are still many Filipino eateries waiting to be discovered.
“Because of them, we are better cooks,” he said, followed by the hashtags #FilipinoFoodFoward and #FilipinoFoodMovement.
Back in 2021, Anglo shared a vlog on Morning Sun Eatery and called it one of his go-to karinderias whenever he’s in Quezon City.
In the video, Anglo enjoyed a plate of dinakdakan, puso ng saging, liempo, and kilawing kabing with a cup of rice.
He started his meal by tasting the Ilokano dish sinanglaw na kalabaw and a stick of bulaklak ng baboy, which a staff of Morning Sun said was "inadobo muna tapos inihaw."
"Yung favorite ko in this meal has to be, first of all yung grilled bulaklak. I would have to go to kilawin next. Then sinanglaw na kalabaw is also very good," he said clearly satisfied.
"Si dinakdakan, guys don't get me wrong, masarap din. Kaso lang, ang dami kong in-order. Eh si dinakdakan, kailangan mo kainin mag-isa kasi bida siya" he added.
"May puso and technique pero andiyan pa rin yung simplicity," Anglo continued.
He must absolutely love Morning Star that a year later, he took his wife Cam for the first time and vlogged about it again.
Anglo himself is a Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee for his Makati restaurant, Sarsa.
Overall, the Michelin Guide recognized 108 establishments in the Philippines for its inaugural 2026 list: 74 Michelin Selected, 25 Bib Gourmand, eight with One Michelin Star, and one with Two Michelin Stars.
