In Makati, a Michelin Selected restaurant that serves authentic Chinese claypot rice

Super Uncle Claypot brings the rich flavors of Guangzhou, China, straight to Filipino diners. And now, it has earned a spot in the inaugural Michelin Selection list in the Philippines.

On Thursday’s episode of “Unang Hirit,” co-owner Avigail Chua said the restaurant’s concept was inspired by their discovery of claypot rice in Guangzhou.

“When we were looking around Manila, we noticed that no one was really making claypot rice the way it’s meant to be, cooked directly in the claypot right when you order it,” Chua said.

“So we thought, why not bring the authentic claypot here in the Philippines?” she added.

Each serving of claypot rice at Super Uncle Claypot is cooked fresh for every customer, taking around nine to 10 minutes to achieve the perfect texture and smoky flavor.

The Michelin Guide says the wait is "well worth" it, and suggested to "order dim sum as a tasty appetiser."

Among the crowd favorites is the Chicken Mushroom with Sausage, made using their own marination and special secret sauce.

Since the announcement of the Michelin Guide, Super Uncle Claypot now serves around 150 to 200 claypot meals a day.

The Michelin Guide recognized 108 establishments in the Philippines in its inaugural 2026 list: 74 Michelin Selected, 25 Bib Gourmand, eight with One Michelin Star, and one with Two Michelin Stars.
