Typhoon Uwan: Local restaurants offer free hot dishes

Due to severe weather conditions brought about by Typhoon Uwan, some local restaurants are offering free food to those in need of comfort through a warm bowl of soup.

Mama Lou's announced that it's giving away free Zuppa di Maccheroni (macaroni soup) to anyone who visits any of its branches "until the situation settles."

"In moments like this, comfort, warmth, and human connection matter more than anything," Mama Lou's wrote.

"Please stay safe. Check on your family. Check on your neighbors. Check on one another," they added.

In addition, Guevarra's by Chef Laudico also announced that it's giving away free bowls of Chicken Arroz Caldo to anyone who visits their restaurant in San Juan City until 7 p.m. on Sunday.

"A simple gesture of care — sana sa pamamagitan nito, maramdaman mong hindi ka nag-iisa," Guevarra's wrote. "Kasama mo kami, and we are all in this together."

Meanwhile, several malls in the Philippines have offered free overnight parking and shelter to those affected by the typhoon.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA's 11 a.m. Sunday bulletin, the following areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5:

  • Central portion of Aurora (San Luis, Baler, Maria Aurora, Dipaculao);
  • Polillo Islands;
  • the northern portion of Camarines Norte (Daet, Talisay, Paracale, Vinzons, Jose Panganiban, Mercedes, Basud);
  • Eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Siruma, Caramoan, Garchitorena, Tinambac, Lagonoy); and
  • Catanduanes.

TCWS No. 4 and No. 3 were also hoisted over some areas in Luzon and Visayas.

Several flights for Nov. 9 and 10 were also canceled. —MGP, GMA Integrated News
