Taiwan food trip: 5 dishes worth a taste

Taiwan food trip: 5 dishes worth a taste

Taiwan isn’t just for sightseeing — it’s a playground for food lovers, too.

From Taichung's picture-perfect cultural spots to Yangmingshan and Beitou's calm scenery and vibe, there’s a whole world of flavors waiting to be discovered.

Here are five experiences worth savoring:

Bubble Milk Tea at Chun Shui Tang - The Original Store

Considered the birthplace of bubble tea, Chun Shui Tang has been crafting this iconic drink since 1983.

Legend has it that the now-famous tapioca pearls were first added to milk tea in 1986, blending childhood memories with traditional tea flavors.

Today, iced bubble tea remains a signature treat, with perfectly chewy tapioca pearls that aren’t overwhelming and a balanced sweetness that makes it refreshing sip after sip.

Prices start at NTD 100 for a small cup.

Wagyu Cubes at Raohe Street Night Market

Night markets in Taiwan are famous for their lively atmosphere and tempting snacks, and Raohe Street delivers some of the best.

Wagyu cubes, grilled to order, offer tender, flavorful bites that are deceptively simple when served on a box with a stick to pick up the slices. Seasonings range from rose salt and chili powder to cumin and teriyaki sauce.

A typical serving costs NTD 200 to 400 depending on the slab size, and watching the vendor grill the meat with a small flame adds a touch of theater to the experience.

White Cut Chicken at Ji Yuan Pu Garden Potherb Restaurant

For a taste of homestyle Taiwanese cooking, head to Ji Yuan Pu near Yangmingshan National Park.

Their white cut chicken is subtly seasoned, tender, and ideal when paired with a simple cup of rice (NTD 10). The dish comes with a spiced soy sauce that enhances its natural flavors.

The restaurant’s cozy wooden interior gives it a homey, carinderia feel, making it perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or family.

A serving is suitable for three to four people at around NTD 500.

Wulao Hot Pot in Ximending

Hot pot is a classic Taiwanese comfort food, and Wulao in Ximending elevates the experience with a calm, Zen-inspired atmosphere.

The restaurant offers a variety of soup bases, including a layered tofu hotpot made from chicken and pork bones, onions, ginger, and garlic.
