KitKat issues statement about stolen 12 tons of chocolate bars
KitKat has confirmed that 12 tons of its chocolate bars were stolen while in transit from its factory in Central Italy en route to Poland.
In a statement posted on social media, the chocolate brand said it is working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate the incident.
“The good news: there are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected,” the statement read.
Earlier reports said the missing shipment consisted of 413,793 pieces from KitKat’s new product range. However, KitKat’s mother company, Nestle, noted that the bars are traceable through a unique batch code.
Anyone who scans the batch numbers of the stolen products will receive instructions on how to contact KitKat.
A representative from Kitkat’s mother company, Nestle, confirmed to The New York Times that the stolen batch consisted of Formula 1-themed KitKat chocolate bars.
In its statement, KitKat said that "whilst we appreciate the criminals' exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes."
