Marikina resto provides free meals to PUV drivers, delivery riders amid fuel price hike

A restaurant in Marikina City is stepping up to ensure that those keeping the country moving don’t go hungry amid the fuel price hike.

In a recent Instagram post, Trining’s Kitchen Stories shared that they are giving away free meals for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and delivery riders who have been among the hardest hit by rising fuel prices.

“Our small act of solidarity with fellow Filipinos from the transport sector. The food and transport industry are severely hit by the fuel crisis, but even more so those of us who now have to choose between fuel or food,” said Trining’s Kitchen Stories.

“No Filipino deserves to be in this situation. The grim reality is this: it’s only gonna get worse."

Through a community-driven effort, the restaurant activated the Tuloy PH kitchen, which allowed them to cook for 250 people.

“We will continue cooking for as long as we have the ingredients and LPG to slice, chop, fry, and stew. This is our act of resistance, remembrance, and hope. Our dream is for every meal to tell our kababayans that they are not alone,” the restaurant said.

Trining's Kitchen Stories also extended its gratitude to diners, supporters, and donors whose contributions made the effort possible.

“We are forever grateful to our generous diners, supporters, and donors. Food carries responsibility and we believe that this is the future of the industry: where technique is sharp, but human impact sharper.”

On Thursday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced a P10-per-liter fuel subsidy for PUVs to ease the burden of drivers and operators amid the fuel price hike.

Meanwhile, an oil industry source stated that an oil price rollback of up to P6 per liter is expected next week following a series of mega fuel price hikes since the Middle East conflict broke out in February.

The estimated reductions in pump prices are P5.50 to P6.50 per liter for diesel and unchanged to P1.00 per liter for gasoline.

The anticipated reductions in pump prices came amid the two-week ceasefire agreed upon by the United States and Iran.
