Quezon City celebrates La Loma Lechon Festival
Quezon City pushed through with the La Loma Lechon Festival on Sunday despite the rains in the city earlier in the day.
The whole-day event, which was part of the fiesta of Nuestra Senora de Salvacion La Loma, featured lechons in colorful costumes during the parade.
The lechon parade started in 1990, according to La Loma Lechoneros Association Founder Monchie Ferreros on "24 Oras Weekend." However, government support of the festival only started in 2000.
After the parade, the lechons were placed on long tables and enjoyed in a boodle fight.
The La Loma lechoneros prepared for the celebration, to give thanks that the culture of "pagle-lechon" is still being honored in the modern day.
The event also features cultural performances and a fireworks display later in the evening.
