Chef Miggy Moreno earns House citation for dual Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition

The House of Representatives has recognized Chef Miguel “Miggy” Cabel Moreno for earning two Michelin Guide 2026 Bib Gourmand distinctions in the inaugural Philippine Michelin guide.

House Resolution No. 872 cites Moreno’s contribution to Philippine gastronomy and his efforts to bring greater attention to regional food cultures through his work as a chef and advocate.

Moreno’s restaurants, Palm Grill and Cabel, were each awarded Bib Gourmand distinctions in the Michelin Guide 2026.

The Bib Gourmand is awarded to establishments that offer exceptional food at reasonable prices.

In a statement sent to GMA News Online, Moreno said the House recognition goes beyond a “personal achievement.”

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from the House of Representatives,” he said. “But this is really a recognition of the many communities, cooks, farmers, fisherfolk, and culture bearers whose stories and traditions inspire the food we serve every day.”

“This recognition belongs to everyone who believed that the flavors of Mindanao deserve a place at the national table,” he added.

Born and raised in Jolo, Sulu, Moreno has been a restaurateur for more than eight years, pushing forward Mindanao cuisine. His Michelin recognition makes him the first Tausug chef to receive the prestigious distinction.

In January 2025, Palm Grill received the seal of approval from the Best Ever Food Review Show, marking the first time a Filipino establishment has been recognized on the YouTube channel, which has more than 12 million subscribers. — LA, GMA News
