Fil-Am writer Yasmin Tayag wins James Beard Media Award for food media excellence
Filipino-American writer Yasmin Tayag has been named one of the winners of the 2026 James Beard Media Awards, recognizing her contributions to food and health journalism.
Tayag received the award under the Health and Wellness category for her works, “The MAHA Trend in Groceries Will Backfire,” “Brace Yourself for Watery Mayo and Spiky Ice Cream,” and “The Cleaner Way to Get Ripped," which were published under The Atlantic.
She took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, sharing photos from the ceremony.
“Ahhhh I won a james beard award!!!!! I met the most wonderful people!!! I ate so many oysters!!! I am so grateful for everyone who got me here!! Knicks in 5!!!!” she wrote in the caption.
Tayag is a staff writer at The Atlantic and co-hosts the publication’s “How to Age Up” podcast. She is also the niece of Filipino artist and restaurateur Chef Claude Tayag.
Established in 1990, the James Beard Foundation Award is named after food writer, teacher, and cookbook author James Beard, who is considered the “Dean of American Cookery.” The awards recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors, and journalists in the United States.
