Cafe Ysabel to close San Juan restaurant, teases 'new chapter'

Cafe Ysabel, one of Manila's oldest restaurants, is closing its longtime home in San Juan after serving guests for more than four decades.

In a Facebook post, the restaurant invited patrons to visit “one last time” before it closes its current location on Thursday.

“As one of Manila’s oldest restaurants, serving guests since 1982, we invite you to dine with us one last time before we close this chapter and start a new one,” Cafe Ysabel wrote.

The restaurant said July 23 will be its final day at its current address along M. Paterno Street.

“This is not goodbye, but the beginning of a new chapter,” it added

Cafe Ysabel was opened by Chef Gene Gonzalez when he was 23 years old with the help of his landlady, veteran actress Susan Roces.

It was housed in a refurbished 1927 ancestral home and introduced an extensive menu, including comfort dishes like braised lamb shanks and poulet adolfo.
