Kylie Verzosa highlights maternal, child health at UNICEF meeting
One week after winning the Miss International crown, Kylie Verzosa is in Japan to discuss women's and children's issues.
Verzosa first attended the Women's Entrepreneurship Forum in Toba to discuss issues experienced by women in the workforce with other Miss International candidates: first runner-up Alexandra Britton of Australia, second runner-up Felicia Hwang of Indonesia, third runner-up Brianny Chamorro of Nicaragua, and fourth runner-up Kaityrana Leinbach of the US.
On Wednesday, the five beauty queens met the representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) from Japan and Denmark to discuss world issues and how to be of help in raising funds to assist children in over 150 countries.
“The girls and I cannot wait to get back home to help our own UNICEF field offices back home. There is so much that can be done. Together, we can help more,” Verzosa said.
Britton, who hails from Australia, added in a separate post, “Five girls, five countries, one world.”

Meanwhile, Indonesian beauty queen Hwang shared, “It broadens our horizons and it definitely gives us motivation and ideas to make the best contribution to our respective countries. Thank you for the opportunity.”
Verzosa also highlighted the importance of maternal health to the child's overall welfare.
“A child's health begins with the mothers'. #awarenessiskey Mothers, take care if your health and well-being for the future of your child. UNICEF is able to provide the aid to those who cannot,” the Filipina beauty queen said.

Verzosa, who hails from Baguio City, won the Miss International 2016 crown last Thursday, October 27.
She is the sixth Filipina to win the crown, following in the footsteps of Miss International 1964 Gemma Cruz, Miss International 1970 Aurora Pijuan, Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman, and Miss International 2013 Bea Santiago. — Bianca Rose Dabu/BM, GMA News
