The 3 natural products Julie Anne San Jose turns to for great hair

Kapuso actress Julie Anne San Jose joins the long list of strong women featured as the faces of the newest formulation of homegrown brand Cream Silk.

At the launch of the improved set of conditioners on Wednesday, Julie Anne shared the simple secret to her enviable hair.

"I have a routine naman every day; I wash my hair every day and make sure that all the (hair) products come out of my head," Julie begins. "Kasi, kapag masyadong maraming products, palaging nagsa-style, usually bumibigat 'yong feeling natin, 'di ba?"

Even before becoming an endorser, Julie Anne said that she has always sworn by Cream Silk — the pink variant — and she makes sure that her hair is always moisturized.

Every three weeks, Julie Ann also turns to three other items that fall on the more "natural' side: "I use Aloe Vera and coconut oil and sometimes egg."

WebMD lists a number of health benefits from Aloe Vera, including studies that show that it's effective in treating dandruff.

Lifestyle websites like StyleCraze additionally recommends Aloe Vera solutions to stimulate hair growth. They suggest making a mixture Aloe Vera gel (2 tbsp) with lemon juice (1 tbsp) and massaging it into your scalp. Leave for 20 minutes, rinse, and say hello to stronger hair.

Coconut oil doesn't require as much preparation. Several lifestyle websites, like Natural Living Ideas, suggests using the product directly on the hair after washing. After rinsing your hair, massage the oil into your hair and leave for 30 minutes. Wash out the oil with shampoo and feel the difference immediately.

Egg, according to websites like Live Strong, pairs well with olive oil to strengthen hair and promote hair growth because of the protein in it.

Crack one in a bowl and mix in the olive oil (1 tbsp). Wash hair first and ring out excess water before applying. Use the mixture especially on the damaged tips for maximum effect. Leave it on your hair for 10 to 20 minutes and then wash it out.

Note that these treatments are not recommended for daily use, as excess minerals or vitamins in the hair can be damaging, too.

As a final tip, Julie Anne suggested going easy on the styling wands and blower.

"I care for my hair a lot ... whenever I use 'yong mga blower or hair straightener or curler, hindi masyadong sunog or hindi masyadong mainit 'yong curler or 'yong straighteners. Kasi it's one reason din kung bakit nasisira 'yong hair natin," the actress said.

Heat, unsurprisingly, dries hair and causes the strands to be more brittle — which means more breakage and hair fall!

"There are some hairstyles na kahit ayusin nila, it still looks frizzy and medyo damaged. Ako naman, I always make sure that my hair is properly conditioned and my hair is properly moisturized," Julie Anne said.
