#Connect2Earth: Biodiversity care urged in Earth Hour 2018
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) earth protection movement Earth Hour will advocate for biodiversity for this year's lights-out event, happening at 8:30 p.m. on March 24.
“Collectively, we must now look deeper and see how our water, food and energy consumption is endangering our planet’s biodiversity. It’s time to connect to Earth and rekindle our role as stewards of the environment," WWF-Philippines President and CEO Joel Palma said in a statement.
Aside from the yearly lights-off event, Earth Hour will feature activity booths, exhibits and cultural performances by local artists at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) to promote its message.
Social media users are encouraged to use the #Connect2Earth hashtag or post on Earth Hour Philippines' Facebook event to share their stories and sustainable living activities to show their commitment to a "one planet lifestyle."
WWF-Philippines’ Head of Climate and Energy Program and Earth Hour Pilipinas National Director Atty. Gia Ibay said governments, businesses, and communities must work together to bring significant, positive change to the country.
“Sustained and concerted efforts are needed to help solve the planet’s deteriorating biodiversity that is further threatened by our changing climate," Ibay said.
