Heavy bleeding during a woman's monthly menstruation can be a sign of the thickening of the uterus' lining or endometrium which, according to OB-Gynecologist Dr. Raul Quillamor, can be an early symptom of endometrial cancer.

In a recent Pinoy MD episode, Dr. Quillamor said that the thickening of the uterus' lining is a symptom of hormonal imbalance where the estrogen level is higher than the progesterone.

Once the estrogen level is high, it stimulates the proliferation of the endometrium cells, which causes the thickening. This, in turn, causes the heavy bleeding during menstruation.

Dr. Quillamor urged women experiencing this to talk to an OB-gynecologist immediately and get an ultrasound as this can possibly be a sign of endometrial cancer. — LA, GMA News
