If bad breath isn't just something that welcomes you in the morning, or after eating dishes rich in garlic and onion; if it stays even after brushing, we have some news for you.

According to Dr. Raul Quillamor's interview in Pinoy MD, oral health involves the entire mouth: from the teeth to the gums and tongue.

"Kung madumi yung gums mo, kung madumi 'yung teeth mo, 'yung tongue mo, it also affects the breath."

According to doctor, bad breath or halitosis is caused by sulfur compounds and  bacteria in the mouth release. This comes from leftover food that gets left behind in the mouth, even after brushing the teeth or flossing.

Two other possible reasons behind bad breath? Smoking and having acid reflux.

It becomes important, then, to visit the dentist twice a year or every six months to have oral prophylaxis or teeth cleaning.

Dr. Quillamor also advised pregnant women to have their teeth checked. According to the doctor, rotten teeth can cause miscarriage due to the infection it brings. — LA, GMA News
