Miss International Philippines Patch Magtanong speaks out about depression, mental health

Miss International Philippines 2019 Patch Magtanong spoke up about mental health and depression, something she noticed was "so common" during her years in law school.

During the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Capiz Chapter Induction of Officers and New Members, Patch took the chance to address law students, and anyone who was struggling with their mental health.

As much as I want to inspire the youth to study hard and to prioritize their education, I hope to also inspire everyone to stop neglecting their mental health for the sake of school. Depression is so common, especially in law school. And yet no one talks about it. So many people suffer in silence, sometimes until it’s too late. Pain is such a transient, temporary thing. You get over the pain, you get over the challenges but you cannot take back a life. Your grades or your degree is not the only important thing. It’s not even the most important thing. So do not resort to a permanent solution to a temporary problem, don’t hesitate to talk to someone. ???? Such an honor to speak in front of my compañeros at the IBP Capiz Chapter Induction of Officers and New Members. Spoke about (temporarily) giving up law practice to become a beauty queen, pursuing passions and mental health. This talk is for my UP Law family and other law students struggling with their mental health, as well as for the young people of Roxas City, and anyone who needs it. Thank you Atty. Remia @kaiseryuri for inviting me! And thank you IBP Capiz for the warm welcome! Will be coming back and I’m bringing the rest of the queens with me ????????? ? Dress by @pablomendeziii ? Shortly after winning the Binibining Pilipinas International 2019 crown, Patch took her oath as a lawyer before the justices of the Supreme Court.

She will be competing for the Miss International title in Japan this November.
