Oily skin is a persistent skin problem among a lot of people. But in a recent episode of Pinoy MD, Dr. Jean Marquez said oily skin cannot be prevented because there are too many possible causes: genetics, hormonal changes, stress.

“But we can control it,” Marquez said. According to Marquez, products containing salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and sulfur are effective in controlling oil. It can be in the form of soaps, solutions, and toners.

She reminds using mild soap in lieu of a strong one because “if it’s too strong, it can dry up our skin. Mago-overcompensate naman yung skin natin, producing more oil.”

Marquez recommends regularly washing your face, but warns not to overdo it: “’Wag to a point na very tight na ang skin. Tapos parang masakit na. Lalo ka lang magpo-produce ng oil.”

Use oil-free cleaners and moisturizers in gel form, she adds. Apparently, creams and ointments might be too thick and make you more oily. “Baka magblock pa ang pores natin,” she continued.

And of course, please see a dermatologist. — LA,  GMA News
