Occupational health issues now a focus in a health show

The show by the Department of Health (DOH) that advocates for environmental and occupational health issues is back for another season! Produced by GMA Network, The Healthy Juan is now on its third season titled, “Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kapaligiran.”

The show by the DOH focuses on informing the public about environmental and occupational health concerns including water safety, community hygiene, occupational hazards, and the importance of having access to clean toilets. Journalist Susan Enriquez takes on the role as the program host for this season.

In one of the episodes, Susan visits Brgy. Bagong Silang in Caloocan where she joins the DOH’s efforts to promote and maintain community hygiene through weekly clean-up drives. The show gives the viewers an in-depth look at what is possible when the community comes together to clean their surroundings through the DOH’s campaigns.

In another episode, Susan discusses about food safety, a concern raised by the DOH. She visits a newly-opened restaurant to determine if their operations meet the food safety standards established by the DOH (https://www.doh.gov.ph/Health-Advisory/Food-Safety). Along with delicious flavor and affordable meals, Susan discovers that following the proper safety procedures in the preparation of the food contributes to customers coming back for more. Moreover, The Healthy Juan stresses DOH’s message of the importance of having clean food and surroundings in helping avoid illnesses and prevent the spread of germs.

In The Healthy Juan, the DOH teaches the viewers simple ways on how they can also contribute to good communal health by maintaining cleanliness and good hygiene at home, in public transport, school, and even in the workplace. Collective efforts in doing simple tasks such as disposing trash and human waste properly, ensuring food and water safety, proper sanitation, and maintaining good hygiene, greatly contributes to ensuring a healthy and clean environment. Furthermore, this season tackles occupational health, in which transportation and public health workers and even those in the agriculture and mining industry were featured as they braved challenging outdoor conditions daily. Viewers were informed by the DOH about the various aspects of health and safety in the workplace and the different precautions that should be observed especially when employed in a workplace that may pose health risks. The different aspects of health and safety in the workplace were explored in this season.
