AMID COVID-19 THREAT

Belo Medical Group to donate all PPEs to hospitals and health centers

The Belo Medical Group is donating its supply of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to health facilities amid the rise of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections in the country.

Dra. Vicki Belo announced the development on Instagram.

"As a response to our president's call, we are donating all our remaining stocks of PPE's in our clinics to various hospitals and health centers in need and we will continue to donate what is needed as our remaining shipments arrive," the Belo Medical Group said in a statement.

The statement added that the medical group was also "committed to the extension of full-pay and full-benefits for all of its employees in spite of the work suspension, the early release of the employees' 13th month pay, and a modified 'no work, with pay' set-up if work suspension lasts beyond May."

The Belo Medical Group also urged other beauty and wellness centers to "donate their stocks to hospitals and health centers, and support their employees by maintaining their salaries and benefits."

When President Rodrigo Duterte placed Luzon under enhanced community quarantine to combat the spread of COVID-19, he enjoined businesses to help the government in its efforts. He has also placed the country under a state of calamity.

Latest government statistics showed that the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines climbed to 187, after the Health Department confirmed 45 new infections.

At present, there are a total of four recoveries and 14 deaths. --Angelica Y. Yang/JST, GMA News
