UST to offer free dorm, food, transpo for its health care workers


University of Santo Tomas announced it will provide temporary accommodation with free food and transportation for its nurses and nurse aids amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

In a statement on Wednesday, UST said it will open the Domus Mariae hotel and dormitory, which is located inside the campus, starting on Thursday, March 19, as an act of compassion and in solidarity with its frontline health workers.”

Aside from free food provisions, UST will also provide bus transportation to the said medical workers who would like to go home or report for work at the UST Hospital, albeit pick-up and drop-off points as well as the schedule have yet to be announced.

Public transportation has been suspended, as the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine took effect on midnight of Tuesday March 17. Public utility buses, jeepneys, tricycles and vehicles under transport network services are not allowed to ply the streets, while the LRT1, LRT2, MRT1 and the Philippine National Railways are likewise suspended. Meanwhile, land, air, and sea travel have been restricted.

?As of Wednesday, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 202 with 17 deaths.
