The rise of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines was not enough to keep devotees in Imus, Cavite from praying together for for better days ahead.

According to a report on GMA News' "Saksi," a ministry called "Ina ng Laging Saklolo" have been holding a "home-based padasal" to fight the coronavirus threat.

A member, Christian Jeff Torrento, explained that prayers and hymns are simply blasted on speakers so they can pray together as one.

Among these is the Oratio Imperata, which is prayed in times of grave need or calamity.

The video also shows how participants at one venue keep a certain distance from one another as a safety precaution against the virus.

"Sa araw-araw na nangyayari sa buong mundo, napakatalamak ng prayer. 'Yun lang po ang nagpakalakas na pinaka-sandata natin," another member Josephine Sahoy explained.

Holy Mass and other public gatherings in the Philippines have been called off as Luzon is under enhanced community quarantine until April 13 to address the threat of the coronavirus.

The country has at least 636 confirmed cases as of Wednesday, with 38 reported deaths. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
