College of Saint Benilde to provide shelter for PGH frontliners

De La Salle College of Saint Benilde will open its doors to the Philippine General Hospital's (PGH) frontliners battling the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to a report from The Benildean, the school's Taft campus will be ready to house 60 healthcare workers starting April 13.

The initiative is part of "Project Safe Shelter" launched by Lasallian schools. La Salle Green Hills has provided shelter for frontliners at The Medical City while De La Salle University opened its doors for healthcare workers from Ospital ng Maynila.

“This decision to house health care workers of PGH is but a small expression of our appreciation and concern for those who continue to sacrifice so much for all of us,” Benilde President  Br. Edmundo L. Fernandez FSC said.

CSB said classrooms, restrooms and other facilities will be "allocated for the use of the guests on the duration of their stay."

Benilde assured its students and the whole community that protocols in safety and hygiene will be followed inside the school with decontamination booths provided.

Several churches and convents in Metro Manila have also welcomed medical frontliners who are battling COVID-19.

As of Thursday, the number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 4,076 with 203 deaths and 124 recoveries. --Jannielyn Bigtas/MGP, GMA News
