Cleaning our homes doesn’t have to be heavy on the budget.

In a “Home Work” episode last Thursday, host Tonipet Gaba showed viewers a few cleaning hacks he learned from various experts.

1. Use old newspapers, used paper to clean glass windows.

Aside from having a game plan in cleaning your house, Tonipet shared that you can use old newspapers or used papers in cleaning glass windows.

Simply wet the paper with water and start wiping the windows.

Janir Ty Datukan, a chemist from the Philippine Normal Univerity, shared, “Pwedeng salamin, pwedeng bintana, nakakalinis ’yan ng surface natin. After noon iniiwan dry, hindi nagkakastreaks, mga linya-linya, kasi wala siyang tiny fibers or any abresive sa papel na makakasira dito.”

2. Use toothpaste to clean kitchen sinks.

You can clean your kitchen sinks just by using toothpaste on a sponge or used toothbrushes.

“Ang maganda sa toothpaste kasi base siya so bumubula siya na parang soap na nakakalinis talaga ng mabuti,” Datukan said. “Natatanggal ’yung mga mouth acids o sugar acids sa ating mga bibig.”

“So a mixture of this is very ideal para sa mga surfaces na may crusts na namumuo ... na mahirap tanggalin using regular soap or sponge,” he added.

3. Baking soda is key to a clean house.

According to Lorenda Hajo from Mommy Hacker PH, baking soda is key to cleaning a lot of places inside the home.

“Hindi ko alam, baking soda napaka-simple, ma kitchen item, and yet ’yung minute amount makakalinis ka na ng buong banyo ... grimes ng kitchen tiles mo,” Hajo said.

Even deposits in the toilet bowl can be removed using baking soda.

If you don’t have baking soda at home, you can also use hot water and pour it over items in the kitchen.

4. Scrub calamansi on your chopping board.

Clean your chopping boards by scrubbing calamansi on its surface. Just make sure that you clean it down to its very corners.

Tonipet and Rovilson Fernandez host the weekly show “Home Work,” a part of the “New Normal: Survival Guide” series which teaches Filipino how to cope amid the pandemic.

“New Normal: Survival Guide” features Winnie Monsod’s “Newsmakers” every Monday; Kara David’s “Bright Side” every Tuesday; Susan Enriquez’s “Pera Paraan” every Wednesday; “Home Work” every Thursday; and Drew Arellano’s “Family Time” every Friday. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
