Woman’s lashes fall out after eyelash extension procedure

A woman’s lashes stuck together and eventually fell out after she got eyelash extensions.

On Wednesday’s “Unang Hirit,” Virginia Roble Caballero said doing the procedure did her more harm than good.

“Noong natanggal ’yung lashes ko due to errors sa gumawa po ng false lashes ko, ang pakiramdam ko ay medyo mahapdi, maanghang, malagkit kasi within the eye area,” she said.

According to ophthalmologist Dr. James Luz, what Caballero felt may have been an allergic reaction to the chemicals used during the procedure, such as glue.

If this happens, the ophthalmologist said the person should wash their eyes immediately with water or use an eye lubricant. He also advised going to a medical expert if the situation worsens.

“Consult an ophthalmologist para makita talaga ’yung problema kasi baka mamaya maglagay tayo ng oil or other products na pwedeng lalong ma-irritate yung mata,” he said.

“Kung nakapansin ng pamumula, pananakit, pagmumuta o pamamaga ng mata, punta agad sa doctor.”

Fortunately, Caballero’s eyes were not harmed during the procedure.

Getting eyelash extensions has become a popular aesthetic procedure, but while there’s no harm in aiming for a more beautiful self, Luz reminds everyone to still be careful.

“Make sure na dapat magpagawa sa professional or certified personnel na talagang nakakaalam kung paano maglagay ng extensions or ’yung procedure,” said the ophthalmologist.

“Sa clients, kailangan alam nila kung may history sila ng allergies sa kahit anong substances kasi ’yung glue, pwedeng magkaroon ng allergic reaction sa mata.”

Of course, these reminders also apply to those who are performing the procedures.

“Dapat proper hygiene. Hand washing then dapat clean ’yung environment,” Luz said.

“‘Pag ’di gumamit ng sterile tools o hindi malinis ’yung kamay or ’yung lugar mismo, pwede mag-cause ng sore eyes,” he added.

“(It may also cause) preseptal cellulitis o kuliti or ’yung worse, ’yung orbital cellulitis, ’yung kumalat ’yung infection sa mata mismo.” – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
