This urban farm in BGC aims to promote community gardening and local food production
Established at a time when prices of vegetables and other necessities continuously increase due to the pandemic, the Urban Farm located in Bonifacio Global City aims to ensure everyone's easy and safe access to vegetables and other local produce.
In Wednesday's episode of Unang Balita, Urban Farm marketing manager Marian Pacunana said the urban farming initiative is also one way way to employ displaced workers during the pandemic.
"We started in Bel-Air farm but may lumapit din po sa 'min na fellow volunteer at na-connect po kami sa BGC through Ayala Land po," she added.
The Urban Farm is a 530sqm community garden located at The Flats in BGC. It is open from 8am to 5pm daily for those who wish to buy vegetables and crops or grow and cultivate their own produce.
To be part of the community, visitors can adopt a pod for as low as P999 or P1,499/pod per month to get a 1m x 1.2m urban farm space to sow and nourish their own fresh produce.
They may also sign up or be a volunteer at the Urban Farm for at least an hour a day.
Meanwhile, residents and visitors can also pick and pay vegetables and other crops, as well as farming essentials from the BGC Urban Farm.
"Meron po kaming pick and pay program. Bibili lang po kayo ng bag sa halagang P150 at pwede niyo na po ilagay kung anong kasyang gulay, kahit anong gulay na pwede nang i-harvest sa farm," Marian added.
This initiative only shows that it is possible to pursue agriculture even within the concrete jungle and ensure better food security for all.
