Early menopause: causes and symptoms

At around age 45 to 50, women hit menopause or the stage in which they stop getting their monthly periods.

But did you know that early menopause is also possible? If at age 30, you haven't had your period for at least a year, you might be experiencing early menopause.

Speaking to "Dapat Alam Mo!" obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Raul Quillamor said several factors cause early menopause: hereditary, having an earlier start of the menstruation cycle, or medical-related conditions, like having undergone an ovary removal operation, for example.

“Kung inoperahan ‘yung babae at tinanggal 'yung dalawang obaryo, hindi na nagp-produce ng estrogen, hindi na siya mare-reverse,” Dr. Quillamor said.

Early menopause have the same symptoms as a woman going through regular menopause: irritation or mood swings, insomnia or sleep disturbances, multiple system manifestations concerning the urinary system, sexual dysfunction, and anxiety.

If you experience anything unusual with your monthly cycle, Quillamor advises for you to see your doctor as soon as possible. Early detection and prevention will avoid any complications with your reproductive system.
