Aga Muhlach shares KMJS clip of Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen recalling Charlene Gonzalez's kindness
Aga Muhlach is one proud husband as he shared a "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" clip of Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen talking about a heartwarming encounter she had with Charlene Gonzalez.
On Instagram Monday, Aga tagged his wife in the caption and wrote, "I tell you, Charlene has always been selfless."
"It's always others before her," he added.
His caption echoed what Sushmita told Kapuso journalist Jessica Soho.
In the interview, the Miss Universe 1994 recalled how Charlene lent her a pair of earrings during the pageant's coronation event.
"I lost my earrings, and that whole outfit had a beautiful set of jewelry," Sushmita began.
"I was literally crying at dinner, when Charlene Gonzalez comes up and says, 'Hello, Miss India, I'm Miss Philippines.' Like, I don't know [her]. Of course, I knew who Charlene was," she added.
According to Sushmita, Charlene immediately offered to lend her a pair of earrings, describing the Filipino beauty queen as an angel in disguise at that time.
"Oh my God, I could picture, at that moment, her with wings," she said.
"She opened up her room and all her earrings to me and said, 'Whichever you want,'" she continued.
Not knowing how to react then, Sushmita said Charlene reassured her that she could pick whatever pair she wanted.
"She said, 'It doesn't matter, it's my country, I'll get another one. You choose whatever you like,'" the beauty queen recalled.
Sushmita eventually won the pageant — wearing Charlene's earrings.
After her coronation, she intended to return the jewelry but Charlene refused.
"'They are your winning earrings, you won in them, you can't give those back. Take it as a gift from the Philippines'," Sushmita recalled Charlene telling her.
Miss Universe 1994 was held in Manila, where Sushmita clinched the coveted crown. Representing the Philippines, Charlene finished in the Top 6 and took home the Best National Costume award.
The KMJS one-on-one interview with Sushmita Sen was aired in 2017, when the former Miss Universe was in town to play judge for the pageant's coronation that year.
