15 kids with cancer receiving medical support from GMA Kapuso Foundation
A total of 15 children with cancer are receiving medical support from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a "24 Oras" report Monday, two-year-old Mira is among the beneficiaries under Kapuso Cancer Champions, one of the sub-projects of the" Give-a-Gift Alay sa Batang Pinoy" Christmas project.
Mira was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia back in December 2024 after her mother, Melgilyn See, noticed she had trouble breathing and walking.
According to the Mayo Clinic, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, also known as acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. It happens when changes in a bone marrow cell's DNA occur, causing it to produce immature white blood cells. ALL is considered the most common type of cancer among children.
"Sobrang sakit po syempre kasi hindi ko po matanggap na ganun po 'yung mangyayari sa baby ko kasi healthy naman po siya nun eh. Una, hindi po namin siya nakitaan ng sintomas na magkakaganyan po siya. Ang expect lang namin is normal lang po na sakit like lagnat po," said Melgilyn.
Melgiyln had to stop working to focus on caring for Mira. Her husband's earnings as a factory worker are also not enough to sustain Mira's medical treatment.
Through the Kapuso Cancer Champions project, the 15 beneficiaries will be given six free cycles of chemotherapy sessions.
"Seeing to the treatment of children with cancer is very, very difficult. Ang GMA Kapuso Foundation, sinisigurado natin na meron kayong kaagapay. Hindi kayo nag-iisa," said Rikki Escudero-Catibog, EVP and COO of GMA Kapuso Foundation.
At a recent event, the foundation gave the children gifts and also organized fun activities in collaboration with Kidzoona and Aeon Fantasy Philippines.
"Thank you for visiting Kidzoona. Seeing everyone's smiles cheered us up. I hope you continue to cherish your smile," Aeon Fantasy PH general manager Hiroshi Sasaki said in Japanese and translated in English.
