Catriona Gray shares style secret: Why comfort, skin health, and ROI come first

Catriona Gray shares style secret: Why comfort, skin health, and ROI come first

For Catriona Gray, style doesn’t have to come at the expense of comfort or skin health.

In an interview with GMA News Online, the Miss Universe 2018 queen shared her philosophy on fashion, body care, and comfort, emphasizing that feeling stylish should not compromise comfort, especially regarding skin health.

“I don't know if I would categorize myself as someone who sacrifices style for comfort because I think that if you are not comfortable, it really shows and I really believe that your energy speaks the loudest than any great outfit does,” Catriona said. “So if my energy is off because I'm uncomfortable, because I'm fidgeting, I'd rather be comfortable and allow my energy to speak the loudest.”

She added that women shouldn’t have to choose between looking stylish and feeling good.

“Feeling stylish shouldn't come with a compromise of your comfort, especially for your skin. So sana makahanap ng compromise or way of still having that comfort whilst not sacrificing your style. I think there's definitely a way to meet halfway.”

When it comes to fashion purchases, Catriona also revealed she looks for practicality and long-term value.

“I always have a question like, ma-ROI (return on investment) ko ba ‘to? I really believe in investing in pieces that are usable multiple times. So quality is a factor there to make sure that it'll last for how many wears or how many years. Because I believe in investing in good quality, not necessarily luxury, but so that it can stay in your wardrobe.”

Before buying something, Catriona also asks herself, “Is this just a trend? Do I really like this or I just saw my favorite celebrity wearing it?”

As someone often in styled looks for shoots and events, Catriona said maintaining skin health is essential. She follows a strict skincare routine, even when traveling.

“It’s really just figuring out what works for me and my skin type,” she said, adding that preparation and awareness of her day’s activities help her make smart choices.

“I'm thinking, am I gonna be outdoors? Am I gonna be sweaty? Do I need a change of clothes? Do I need all these X, Y, and Zs? I think taking those into consideration, you can make smart choices and prepare ahead,” she said.

Hiraya Pilipina

In discussing a collaboration with Filipino brand Hiraya Pilipina, where Catriona highlighted products related to both fashion and skin, she underscored a powerful message: choosing what feels right for the individual.

“We all have different bodies and we all have different senses of fashion and being able to have an array of choices to feel comfortable in whatever that looks like,” Catriona said. “If you wanna have cleavage, if you wanna be covered up, again, it comes back to choice, feeling comfortable, feeling beautiful, whatever that looks like for you.”

Hiraya Pilipina, a solutionwear brand owned by 21-year-old Cleo Loque, shares the same philosophy.

Cleo said their products are designed to prioritize both comfort and skin safety, a reflection of the brand’s commitment to inclusivity and care.

“One of the tests we did was the skin sensitization test, meaning we had to make sure it’s good for sensitive skin,” she said. “Hiraya Pilipina is all about options, and that is why we also have a product that is for sensitive skin and also doesn’t have any glue or adhesive.”

Among Hiraya Pilipina’s products are the slap-on non-adhesive nipple pasties (P299), the pixie wings (P599), and the bosom cake (P699).
