'Dogshow Divas' cohost Baus Rufo shares why he left his successful corporate life and became a content creator

Baus Rufo is one-half of the super trending podcast "Dogshow Divas."

With co-host Macoy Dubs, the pair discusses a variety of topics in the podcast like Ely Buendia's last name, Christmas party staples, Metro Manila malls, Camanava and her best friends, and Filipino corporate life.

Baus guested In a recent episode of “Your Honor,” where Chariz Solomon and Buboy Villar asked him about his experience in the corporate world.

“Sampung taon ako nag-corporate," Baus began before poking a joke. "Tapos sabi ko, paano ko ba mapagkakakitaan ang kabaklaan ko?"

Baus traced his, well, origin story: He first started on TikTok, and then he got into comedy and podcast.

“I've been doing it for five years na. Enjoy, masaya, mas pagod, pero mas masaya,” he added.

In the podcast, the rising social media star admitted to feeling scared about leaving his 9-5 job “kasi siyempre, lahat naman may mga tao, pag nandoon sila sa isang trabaho, lot of people, they keep their jobs because of the sweldo. Kasi may responsibilities. And tama yun, valid yun, di ba? Stability,  importante yan."

It took him a long time to decide "kasi nga, like, saan ako? Anong next move ko?”

When the pandemic hit, Baus admitted he struggled with his mental health and felt like he didn’t have any creative outlet. Additionally, his working environment became more toxic to handle.

"Umabot na siya sa point na nagigising na ako in the middle of the night. I guess from the stress during the day, so parang feeling ko — ang nagpare-sign talaga sa akin, health reasons,” Baus said.

After leaving his daily job, Baus discovered his skills and talents more and rebuilt a career around his strengths.

“Slowly but surely, na-rebuild ko yung career ko. Tapos parang, meron nga pala akong ibang skills and talents that I can use. Tapos now, five years later, andito ako sa harap nyo,” he said.

But it's not without stresses, too. In "Your Honor," Baus admitted that his current set up constantly tires him out, as well. "I guess sa sobrang pagod ko ngayon, parang patawid na po ako sa kabilang buhay," Baus even joked.

But he remains grateful for his work. "Feeling ko, yung trabaho kasi natin, parang constantly, grateful masaya tayo, pero pagod at the same time," he said.

"Kailangan magkasama yung dalawa. Overstimulating kasi," Baus added.

Apart from being a content creator, comedian and host, Baus is also a co-founder of the production company Bekenemen, which holds drag watch parties.

“Dogshow Divas” only started in September but already has more than 80K followers on Instagram. It currently sits at the Top 6 podcast on Spotify. — Jade Veronique Yap/LA, GMA Integrated News
