Gary Valenciano says he's 'OK, I'm getting better', after developing cellulitis

Gary Valenciano revealed that he is recovering from cellulitis, which caused swelling in his left leg and required him to arrive in a wheelchair at the media conference of his upcoming podcast, “Unshaken" on Friday.

During the event, Mr. Pure Energy admitted he wasn’t initially sure if he would be able to attend the media conference because “I didn't want what you see [here] to overpower what's actually going to take place and what we're actually sharing with everyone."

"But since it is about being unshaken and stories of grit and grace, I thought this is the best way to prove it. But if this was scheduled yesterday, there would be no way that I would be here,” Gary said.

He underwent a medical test prior to the press event and had another scheduled later that afternoon.

“Just to immediately answer the question that you might have in your mind, ‘Why did you come in in a wheelchair?’ I'm actually on my way to getting better.?I have what is called cellulitis on my left leg. There was a slight opening somewhere, you know, we don't know where that opening was, but bacteria got in and the rest is history,” Gary said.

Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection that causes redness, swelling, warmth, and pain, usually affecting the legs.

He continued, “It swelled my leg up and then they had to conduct so many tests. And I'm actually only going to be here for a while because there's another test later on this afternoon. But I'm normal, I'm OK, I'm getting better.”

According to his wife, Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, the infection may have developed after Gary went golfing on Sunday and knelt on the grass.

She added they had pre-Valentine’s Day checkups and everything had been normal prior to the incident.

Despite the health setback, Gary said he is grateful to host “Unshaken.”

The inspirational podcast is set to roll out episodes mid-April on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. Among the guests are Michael V. — LA, GMA Integrated News
