David Licauco debuts in Hyrox Taipei with fastest time among Filipino participants

David Licacuo made a strong showing at his debut in Hyrox Taipei.

According to a “24 Oras Weekend” report, the Pambansang Ginoo competed in the men’s open division and finished with a total time of 1:07:48.

With nearly 2,000 participants, he ranked 53rd overall and 19th in the 30 to 34 age group.

David set the fastest time by a Filipino participant in the Hyrox open division in Asia and ranked No. 1 among all Filipino participants in the Taipei leg.

According to the Sparkle actor, he trained for a month and a half in preparation for the competition.

“Nakakatuwa na meron akong ni-look forward to, na parang may reason na kung bakit ako nage-training kasi I’ve been training all my life pero wala namang end goal,” he said on 24 Oras Weekend.

“Yung competitiveness ko, nabubuhay dahil sa sport na ’to,” he added.

David is set to compete again in May for Hyrox Hong Kong, this time in the doubles division with fellow Kapuso star Vince Maristela. He also plans to join the open division solo in a future race.

“I just don’t want to beat the Philippine record, but I want to beat everyone,” he said. “So siguro sali ako ng open division na solo and I want to do better sa next.”

Hyrox is a global indoor fitness race that combines running and functional workout stations. To complete the entire routine, participants run one kilometer, then complete one functional workout station, repeating the cycle eight times.

David currently stars opposite Jillian Ward in "Never Say Die." It airs on GMA Network from Mondays to Fridays at 8:55 p.m. — Hermes Joy Tunac/LA, GMA Integrated News
