Boy with rare skull condition undergoes surgery thanks to GMA Kapuso Foundation
A young boy who was born with a rare condition that affected the back of his head is now recovering well after undergoing surgery with the help of the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a report on “24 Oras” on Friday, Prince has had a noticeable lump at the back of his head since birth that gradually grew bigger as he got older.
A doctor diagnosed this as occipital meningocele.
“Known as a occipital meningocele, nagkaroon siya ng protrusion ng brain tissue through a defect doon sa occipital bone sa likod. It's a developmental nung baby pa siya, sa inborn ‘yan talaga ‘pag nag-fail mag-fuse ‘yung pinakabuto,” Dr. Hector Santos said.
Prince was also diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
Hoping to give their son a chance at a normal life, Prince’s parents sought help from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
In October, Prince successfully underwent surgery to remove the lump and can now move more freely and lie down comfortably.
His mother Judy Ann expressed her gratitude, saying, “Malaki po ang pasasalamat namin sa GMA Kapuso Foundation dahil ‘yung matagal na po naming hiling na maoperahan ng anak namin, sila po ‘yung naging daan.”
Prince's teacher, Alicia Gonzalbo, shared positive changes in his school life.
“‘Yung pinagsama ko na po ‘yong bata na ‘yung natatakot sa kanya, hindi na po natatakot ‘yung bata. Hindi na siya umiiyak,” she said.
For those who are interested to help, GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
