GMA Kapuso Foundation offers free pap smear, breast exam to more women in Catanduanes

This Women’s Month, the GMA Kapuso Foundation offered free pap smears and breast examinations to the women of San Miguel, Catanduanes.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Wednesday, among the beneficiaries of the initiative was Josephine Brazos, a single mother who juggles raising her seven children and farming abaca to make ends meet. 

“Laban lang, kahit na binabagyo tayo palagi, makakaahon din tayo,” she said.

Josephine has often put herself and her health last because of her responsibilities. Now, she worries after one of her siblings passed away due to breast cancer.

She was among the 60 women in San Miguel who received free pap smears, breast examinations, and a lecture through the GMA Kapuso Foundation. The beneficiaries also received food and drinks.

“Sa cervical cancer, dinurugo po kayo nang hindi pa dapat kayo reglahin. May masakit na puson or may lumalabas na tubig or kakaibang amoy po sa ating mga pwerta,” explained OB-GYN Dr. Marianne Lianko-Tresvalles. 

“Sa breast naman po, kailangan natin i-monitor kung ang size ba niya ay usual,” she added.

Per the report, Josephine learned that she was cleared of breast cancer following the free checkup.

“Pasalamat din po ako sa GMA Kapuso kasi nakapag-sponsor sila dito sa bayan namin,” she said.

Previously, the foundation offered free pap smears and breast examinations to women in Panganiban and Viga, Catanduanes, to kick off Women's Month.
