This fat cat forces you to take social media breaks when installed on web browser

Need a break from social media? Let this fat cat distract you.

Created by Japanese developer ZOKUZOKU, the internet tool dubbed Cat Gatekeeper flashes a giant orange cat on your screen when you’ve been scrolling social media for too long.

Available as a Google Chrome extension, Cat Gatekeeper lets you set a daily social media usage limit, with a default of 60 minutes, and a break time, which is set to five minutes by default.

Once you’ve consumed your allotted time on platforms like Facebook, X, Threads, YouTube, and Reddit, the cat will automatically hijack your screen, forcing you to take a break based on your chosen duration.

During this time, you won’t be able to access those social media sites until the break is over.

The extension is free, contains no ads, and does not collect or transmit any user data externally.

According to a global report in October 2025, Filipinos lead in online shopping and video streaming.

The study showed that 83.8% of Filipinos are active internet users, placing the country among the most connected in Southeast Asia. The Philippines ranks 12th globally in total internet users, with over 98 million individuals now online.

In 2020, Filipinos also ranked first in terms of spending the most time on social media.

Meanwhile, here are tips on how to take care of your digital well-being, according to United Nations. —JCB, GMA News
