You can get a no-scalpel vasectomy for free in UP this June
Men can avail of a free no scalpel vasectomy (NSV) service at the University of the Philippines Diliman this month.
According to an announcement by the UP Center for Women and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) the procedure will take place on June 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UPCWGS Parking Lot.
The initiative is launched DKT Philippines, a non-profit organization that aims to promote responsible parenthood and family planning among Filipino men.
Only 15 clients can be accommodated during the event. Interested participants are encouraged to register early to secure a slot.
NSV is a permanent contraceptive method for men that works by closing off the vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles. As a result, sperm is prevented from mixing with semen during ejaculation.
The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) has promoted non-scalpel vasectomy as a form of contraception for men. It is said to be 99.8% effective and only needs to be done once.
One of the most notable Filipino personalities to undergo a vasectomy is Kapuso host Drew Arellano, who had the procedure done in April 2025. He did it shortly after the birth of his fifth child with his wife Iya Villania.
Writer Brix Tino also shared his vasectomy journey in his Palanca-winning essay "Ari" last year.
