SPED teachers honored at Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Bulacan
San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan kicked off the Christmas season with a special tribute to special education (SPED) teachers and students through its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
According to Raffy Tima’s report on “24 Oras” on Friday, the 40-foot Christmas tree was illuminated in front of the New Government Center, featuring colorful lights, festive decorations, and teddy bears of different sizes.
The teddy bears symbolized the city's appreciation for SPED teachers and students, recognizing their dedication, hard work, and contributions to the community.
“I'm happy and proud because it feels like they appreciate our hard work and the love we give our students,” SPED teacher Miles Armas said in Filipino.
“To be honest, working in Special Education is very challenging. So, thank you very much for dedicating this year’s Christmas light display to us,” SPED teacher Karissa Batayola said.
Adding to the celebration was a musical performance by National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab and his singers.
“Residents of San Jose del Monte have always looked forward to this event, starting with our Tanglawan Festival. Now, we are bringing the spirit of Tanglawan to the San Joseños this Christmas,” student Marc Alcaide said.
Hannah Los Baños also expressed excitement over the annual celebration, noting that the city's Christmas lighting display gets more impressive each year.
“Of course, we’re happy because attending the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony has become a tradition for us,” another added.
