A new live-action prequel series set in the “Stranger Things” universe is coming to Netflix in 2028.

Titled “Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure,” the series will take place in the 1950s, decades before the events of the original show and the stage play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.”

The project comes from “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer and longtime series writer Kate Trefry, who will serve as showrunner, co-creator, and writer.

“We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” Matt and Ross said. “It’s Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new … actually, we’re not allowed to say any more.”

BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning director Joe Wright will helm the first three episodes.

Production will take place in New Mexico. Netflix has yet to announce the cast.

"Stranger Things," created by the Duffer Brothers, debuted on Netflix in 2016.

Set in the 1980s, the story starts with the mysterious disappearance of Will Byers and subsequent appearance of Eleven, a girl with psychokinetic abilities, which leads to the uncovering of supernatural entities and government conspiracies.

It stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, and Joe Keery, among others. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA News
