Kevin McNally and Charlie Bewley chat shop about acting at Toycon 2017

While known for their franchise roles as Gibbs in Pirates of the Caribbean and Demitri in the Twilight Saga, Kevin McNally and Charlie Bewley are top actors in their own right.

As they've shared on day two of Toycon 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, McNally's headed right back to the United Kingdom to prepare for the lead role of King Lear at Shakespeare's Globe while Bewley has Thunder Road and the premiere of Renegades to busy himself with.

Preparing for a diverse range of roles is a task both actors are familiar with and, as they said at the Vampires and Pirates panel on Saturday, one they enjoy.

"I think the reason I went into acting in the first place is I loved the idea of training to become something. For Renegades, which is a Navy SEALS movie, we got to train with some of the most intensely badass guys you're ever going to meet in your lives," Bewley explained.

"You just become of it, it just becomes of you, through osmosis almost. I think that's the beauty of the whole thing. And I'm sure there's times where you have no lead up, no time to actually prepare for the role, and you actually have to pull it out of nowhere and I think that's an equally-exciting proposition," he continued.

McNally joked: "When I got the part for Pirates of the Caribbean, I didn't have that long to prepare, and I realized that I actually, in all my life, been preparing for this role by being a very heavy drinker."

He and Bewley formally opened Toycon 2017 with fellow celebrities Karen Fukuhara, Lindsey McKeon, Cas Anvar, Stefan Kapicic, and Greg Cipes in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The two men will return on Sunday for more panels and meet-and-greets. —ALG, GMA News
