All-pink, Hello Kitty classroom a labor of love for Masbate teacher

There is no chance that Samelyn Lafuente's students will end up in the wrong room.

That's because Samelyn, who teaches Grade 1 at Cawayan Exterior Elementary School in Barangay Cawayan, Masbate City, has covered her classroom in Hello Kitty decorations and painted the walls, benches, and bookshelves pink.

Photos shared to GMA's Youscoop community show that the classroom's floor has also been covered by pink Hello Kitty wallpaper, while Hello Kitty cut-outs are stuck to the walls and hang from the ceiling.

Lafuente told GMA News Online that the room's transformation was not sudden—in fact, she started decorating it way back in 2015, and added to the decorations little by little over the years.

"Nagsimula po akong mag decor ng Hello Kitty nung 2015 po, tapos dagdagan ko lang yung mga mga designs ko hanggang sa ganito na po ito," she said, adding that other classrooms in the school have their own decorations as well.

Lafuente said that she decided to decorate her classroom this way because she loves pink and Hello Kitty, and she wanted her students to be happy and enjoy their time at school.

The cost of the decorations all come out of her own pocket, but for Samelyn, it's all worth it to see how much her students enjoy being in the room.

"Although magastos po, masaya po sa pakiramdam na nakikita ko na masaya din ang mga estudyante ko," she said. "Ginagawa ko po ito para sa kanila. Mahal ko sila."
