Meet the Ultras Filipinas, a festive group of supporters cheering for Pinoy athletes at the 30th SEA Games

Meet the Ultras Filipinas, a group of supporters who have been going on full blast, cheering for Pinoy athletes on the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

According to a report by Nico Waje on Stand For Truth, Ultras Filipinas was formed in 2012, shouting their festive chants for Team Azkals' football games.

"Ultras is a form of support na kakaiba doon sa usual na support na nakaupo ka lang pumapalakpak. Merong drums, merong kantahan, festive," Jerry of Ultra Filipinas said, adding theirs is a kind of festive support for the athletes.

He said their ultimate goal was to make football known in the Philippines, but for the 30th SEA Games, they're also cheering the hockey team and even chess.

The Ultras Filipinas was part of the 6,500 fans cheering at the Rizal Memorial Stadium last Friday when the Azkals defeated Malaysia, 1-0.

Their cheering began even before the match, with a parade on the streets, a Philippine flag in tow for good measure. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
