‘We wanted to impress the ladies’: One Click Straight on their motivations, playing music with siblings, and more

It’s safe to say that the band One Click Straight (OCS) is the better outcome than what they had initially set out to do.

“We wanted to look cool and impress the ladies in school,” guitarist Sam Marquez told GMA News Online.

“That’s the number one reason,” echoed his brother Tim.

They were at that age where they already had crushes. "And we’re not good in football and basketball," Sam continued. "The only way we knew to a girl's heart was through music, so yun na lang yung naging niche namin."

While they failed in that department, "We got to form One Click Straight!” Sam said.

That was in 2010 and the four-piece band has certainly come a long way since. In 2017, they signed with Offshore Music and the following year, they released their debut album “The Midnight Emotion.”

This year, OCS is included in the recently released Offshore Vol. 2, a compilation of songs by artists of the label.

With Sam and Tim in the band are older brother Toffer and Joel Cartera, whom they call their “fetus buddy.”

“We’ve been friends ever since we can remember,” Tim offers, and their closeness pretty much works in their favor.

“There’s like a telekinetic connection,” says Sam. “No need to say things, we just look at each other and we get it” Tim agrees.

And it’s true.

Despite not knowing they were going to perform that day, and despite Tim not being a guitarist, at Crow’s Nest Studio, the two present members of OCS easily found a solution to an otherwise stressful afternoon.

After taking a few short runs, Sam and Tim adapted a chill and groovy version of “Manila,” the band’s first Tagalog song with a music video that featured a cameo of Offshore Music Chairman Ely Buendia.

And what do you know? It turned out to be quite a version too! Have a listen! — LA, GMA News
